In 1997 we became a Good Samaritan church.

This means we focus on our neighbors who are in some kind of crisis - physically, emotionally and/or spiritually.

It means we open our hearts and the doors of our facility to the poor and marginalized people of our city.

It means we love people.

OKCC was founded in an effort to do this in practical ways.

About Us

OKC Compassion Inc. (OKCC) was founded in December of 1998 as a 501(c)(3) and is an outflow of the ministry of Penn Avenue Church of the Nazarene which started in 1922.  Penn Avenue Church and OKCC work as partners, but each has its own Board of Directors and separate finances.

Recovery Houses - We provide residential programs for those who need serious help in getting their lives back on track.  Most of our clients are coming out of very desperate situations.  Some have been in alcohol and drug programs or in jail or prison.

Clothing - Our clothing room is a busy place.  Many individuals and organizations donate clothing and other items.  We give clothes to all people in need…infants, children and adults.

Hot Meals - We serve nutritious meals six days a week.  On holidays and other special occasions we provide a hot meal to as many as 300 people.

Emergency Financial Assistance - When funds are available we help people who are in serious financial stress.  We give people a hand-up, not just a hand-out.

Helping the Children - Many children in our community have unique and special challenges.  When staffing is available, we provide tutoring, educational classes, and special activities.  We provide school supplies, Christmas gifts, and other kinds of enjoyable and useful donations.

Counseling - Many in our community have struggles with mental illness, addictions, family relationships, etc.  We are pleased that we are able to provide quality counseling to help people with a variety of needs.

Matthew 25:40
“I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you are doing it to me.”
